About Alexis

I am a lifelong Nevadan, a proud graduate of Clark County public schools, and now a mother raising my children in the same community that shaped me. Growing up in a union household with immigrant roots, I learned the values of hard work, sacrifice, and solidarity. My dad provided for us as a union carpenter and my mom as CCSD support staff, showing me the dignity of working families. Those lessons stayed with me as I became a young mom, worked my way through school, and started a career in public service at the Clark County District Attorney’s Office. Along the way, I became a union steward and now serve as Chief Steward with SEIU 1107, fighting for fair wages, better healthcare, and stronger protections for working people.

Why I’m Running

I know firsthand the struggles of living paycheck to paycheck, balancing childcare costs, and choosing between rent, bills, and healthcare. That’s why I’ve dedicated my life to standing up for working families. I’ve lobbied for more affordable housing, better schools, and expanded healthcare, and I co-founded SEIU 1107’s Latino Caucus to empower our community. I am running for Assembly District 1 because working families deserve a champion who will make sure every voice is heard and no one is left behind. I will focus on passing affordable housing legislation, work to expand access to high quality affordable healthcare by supporting our Federally Quality Health Cares (FQHCs) in the state, and I will unquestionably stand with working people.

Issues

I grew up in a union household, so I know what it means when workers have dignity on the job. Nevada’s families depend on fair pay, safe workplaces, and strong protections, but too often those rights are under attack. I will fight to strengthen collective bargaining, protect pensions, expand paid leave, ensure safe staffing for frontline workers, and raise wages so no one working full time lives in poverty. When workers are respected, families and communities grow stronger.

Families in District 1 are still being squeezed by high healthcare costs, long waits, and gaps in care. Healthcare should work for us, not insurance companies. I will fight to lower prescription drug prices, expand affordable coverage, invest in mental health and addiction services, support community clinics, and make sure providers have the tools to deliver quality care. Every Nevadan deserves healthcare without the fear of crushing debt.

Too many families are also being priced out of their neighborhoods. Rents keep rising while wages stay flat, leaving many just one notice away from eviction. I will push to build more affordable housing, protect renters from unfair practices, support first time homebuyers, and partner with local governments to turn vacant properties into homes. Housing is a basic need, and no Nevadan should be forced out of the community they love.

Assembly District 1

Nevada Assembly District 1 covers the area of North Las Vegas stretching north from Craig Road near Craig Ranch Regional Park. The district’s eastern boundary runs along Commerce Street up to Centennial Parkway. The northern boundary follows Grand Teton Drive and Horse Drive, including portions of the Aliante and Iron Mountain Ranch communities. On the western side, the boundary extends along Camino El Norte, connecting back south toward Craig Road.
